It’s been awhile since the last time I read a story written in verse which reminds me how fun and quick reading books like this. Love and Leftovers is a beautifully written story of one girl’s journey navigating family, friends, and love, and a compelling and sexy read that teens will gobble up whole. What does it feel like, really? can you even know it until you’ve lost it? But understanding love, especially when you’ve watched your parents’ affections end, is elusive. She starts at a new school where a cute boy brings her breakfast and a new romance heats up. She leaves behind her friends, a group of freaks and geeks called the Leftovers, including her emo-rocker boyfriend, and her father.īy the time Labor Day rolls around, Marcie suspects this “vacation” has become permanent. In the end, she and Bao from the first novel die at almost the same time, each losing the battle. Her faith combined with her desire to fight back against the men who are attacking China’s Christian communities eventually leads her into a battle she cannot win. Vibiana longs to be both a great Christian and a great fighter. Once Four-girl becomes a Christian and takes the name of Vibiana, she is visited by the spirit of Jean d’Arc who becomes her role model both for her extreme faith and for her prowess as a warrior. Neither novel presents the view-point of the foreigners, the non-Chinese who ran things in China at the time.įour-girl, the heroine of Saints, is also visited by a hero of the past like Bao was in Boxers. The girl in Saints is also fighting for the Chinese, the Christian Chinese who were the targets of much of the anger in Boxers. Boxers told the story of a boy caught up in the rebellion, fighting on the side of the Chinese. The two books each present different perspectives on the same set of events in China’s Boxer Rebellion of 1900. Saints, the companion to Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel Boxers, makes the project worthwhile. 5/28/2023 0 Comments Cursed wheelerNimue teams up with a charming mercenary named Arthur and refugee Fey Folk from across England. She felt like a real woman, multifaceted and mysterious. Jane was a very interesting character and I love how she was characterised. I wasn’t disappointed by the outcome at all. I thought it was a clever plot and although I did think that the ending was rather predictable, that didn’t stop me enjoying the rest of the plot. Poirot attempts to unravel the mystery while the murders continue. Her husband’s butler and secretary place her at the scene of his murder but she was also seen at a dinner party at the same time. It was such a fun mystery as the prime suspect, Jane Wilkinson, appears to have been in two places at once. Lord Edgware Dies was another odd but enjoyable Poirot novel. After all, how could Jane have stabbed Lord Edgware to death in his library at exactly the same time she was seen dining with friends? And what could be her motive now that the aristocrat had finally granted her a divorce? And yet the great Belgian detective couldn’t help feeling that he was being taken for a ride. Summary: Poirot had been present when Jane bragged of her plan to ‘get rid of’ her estranged husband. 5/27/2023 0 Comments Andrew Wyeth by Andrew WyethWhether you are new to the work of Andrew and Jamie Wyeth or are familiar with it, this exhibition will allow you to see their art converge and diverge over the years.
